At StayLooped, we are dedicated to being a voice for the disabled community, offering news, resources, and a platform for connection. Recently, we had the incredible opportunity to attend and film at the 2024 Tailgate Party for IN! Inclusive Pathways to Higher Education, an event that perfectly encapsulated the power of community, advocacy, and forward momentum in the realm of inclusive education.
Building a Stronger Community:
The 2024 Tailgate Party wasn’t just an event; it was a celebration of community and progress. IN! Inclusive Pathways to Higher Education has been at the forefront of expanding opportunities for individuals with disabilities, ensuring that higher education is not just a dream but an achievable goal for all. This event highlighted the importance of networking, building connections, and fundraising to support this essential cause.
Michelle Benewitz, a passionate advocate and parent, shared her emotional journey with the crowd. Her daughter’s path through inclusive higher education has been filled with challenges and triumphs, but with the support of the community and the resources provided by IN!, they’ve been able to navigate these hurdles successfully. As Michelle eloquently put it, this community is more than just a network—it’s a family.
Inspiring the Next Generation:
One of the highlights of the evening was hearing from recent graduates like Melissa, who shared her excitement about the future and her dreams of becoming a fashion designer. Her story is a testament to what inclusive education can achieve, empowering students to pursue their passions and realize their full potential. Melissa’s advice to others considering higher education was simple yet profound: “Be positive.” Her words resonated with everyone in attendance, a reminder that with the right support and mindset, anything is possible.
A Night of Announcements and Achievements:
The evening was also marked by exciting announcements that signal the growth and expansion of IN!’s mission. The organization revealed plans to expand their program to both Pikes Peak Community College and Lamar Community College, extending their reach to even more students in western Colorado.
This expansion is a significant milestone, showing how far the program has come since its early days with just three participating universities. Today, with eight institutions involved and more on the horizon, the impact of IN! is truly mind- boggling.
Michelle Benewitz, reflecting on these developments, expressed her pride in her daughter’s achievements and the broader accomplishments of the program. With the University of Colorado Colorado Springs recently becoming the second university to be accredited by IHEA, the strides being made in inclusive higher education are undeniable.
The 2024 Tailgate Party was a night to remember, filled with inspiring speeches, generous donations, and a strong sense of community. Events like these remind us of the power of coming together for a common cause and the incredible things that can be achieved when we do. At StayLooped, we’re honored to support and share the stories of those making a difference in the disabled community.
